Top 5 Cheeses and Their Mouthwatering Recipes

10 Nov

In lieu of my guest blogging with Wisconsin Cheese Talk I have been brainstorming various cheeses and my favorite ways to eat them. Their are so many different types of cheese out there and it was very hard to narrow it down but I did. I tried to pick a wide variety of cheeses, from the type of milk they are made from to the aging process and style. Smoked, melted, topped, and even itself, cheese is delicious and one of my favorite things to enjoy. With so many different types of cheese of artisanal varieties and so many different manufacturers with an even greater multitude of ingredients, blends and techniques the world of cheese is extraordinary and limitless. These should get you started on that lifelong quest of experiencing different and exotic cheese in all it’s forms.

5. Assorted Pastries including (but not limited to :)) Strawberry Cheese Danish, Cherry Turnover, Coconut Streusel, Guava Cheese Empanada, and a nice big coffee.

Porto’s Bakery

Los Angeles, CA

Sometimes the perfect breakfast is some fresh baked pastries and strong bold coffee. Porto’s Bakery has the best pastries I have found since the east coast. The pastries are always hot and flaky and the fillings taste so fresh and naturally sweet. They have an enormous selection of insanely delicious and unique pastries to suit your taste.

4. Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Burrito

Corner Cottage

Los Angeles, CA

Packed with freshly scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, hash browns, and freshly made out of this world salsa. Corner cottage is a small building that pumps out well over a hundred burritos a day. Locals line out the front door and wait up to 30 minutes for their breakfast. Once you have tasted this delicious quality burro you will know why.

3. Hungry Platter

The Place

Flagstaff, AZ

Homestyle eggs cooked to order, ham, bacon, biscuits and gravy, and a pancake make this the perfect next morning breakfast for the crazy students of the local Northern Arizona University. The Place has been a Flagstaff favorite for their delicious food, insanely huge portions and homestyle feel.

2. Salmon and Cream Cheese Benedict

La Bellavia

Flagstaff, AZ

One of my favorite fall breakfasts. The salmon is smoky and salty delicious, the cream cheese warms and softens to a creamy perfection and the perfectly poached eggs dribbles delicious organic free range yolk slowly down to the crispy made-in-house english muffin. The crispy delicious home fries, fresh squeezed OJ and locally roasted coffee are the perfect compliment!

1. Cinnamon Apple and Banana Pancake

Bobo’s

Tucson, AZ

Pancakes the size of semi tires! The banana apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar are caramelized first before the creamy and fluffy batter is poured on top and they are flipped with a pizza paddle. These babies are so good you don’t need the syrup. After one I  can barely think about the biscuits and gravy and denver omelette I impulsively ordered!

5. Chicken Parmesan

Pagliacci’s

Los Angeles, CA

A real homestyle pizza place with a delicious tangy marinara sauce. When they smother it over a few pieces of crispy hand breaded chicken strips (that Pagliacci got from the local market right across the street,) covers it with some shaved parmesan and throws it in one of their hand made rolls it will blow your mind.

4. Pastrami, Cole Slaw, and Russian Dressing

Langer’s

Los Angeles, CA

How can you make an already delicious home made pastrami and cole slaw sandwich better? You slap it on a couple slices of home made rye as well! This is one of my all time favorite sandwiches and have searched a long time for one like this. When it comes to classic jewish delicatessen that reminds me of the east coast Langer’s is the place!

3. Chicken Schwarma

Pita Jungle

Phoenix, AZ

I have not had a chicken schwarma that I liked as much as the ones in Israel until I came here with my girlfriends sister. The chicken was perfectly seasoned with those delicious middle eastern spices that taste like israel. The lemon, garlic, peppers, and then the cool tahini hits and coats your mouth and the sweet crunch of fresh onion, cucumber, and tomato. The fluffy yet crunchy pita wrap holds all of it together like a delicious dough sweater. Mmm.

2. Junkyard Dawg

Bigfoot Bar-B-Q

Flagstaff, AZ

Tucked in cozy ol’ Flagstaff off Route 66 Bigfoot the people at Bigfoot serve up some delicious smoked barbeque and some vrazy creations inspired by the various BBQ regions of America. My favorite is the Junkyard Dawg, straight from the hard-working, pork eating, junkyard people of the south this sandwich packs a punch! They take a smoked Red Hot link and smother it with their pulled pork in the hot BBQ sauce, they finish it off with a hefty heaping of their signature spice rub seasoned creamy slaw, more BBQ sauce and a hefty side of regular or sweet potato fries.

1.Club Sandwich

Beyond Bread

Tucson, AZ

I have not seen a club sandwich stacked as high or as well as the club from Beyond Bread. Fresh sliced hand roasted turkey, crisp applewood bacon, crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, and a good slab of mayo in between some perfectly toasted slices of their home made bread. 4 toothpicks, 2 ice teas, and a pound of sandwich later you are in a state of sandwich-phoria that you wont come back from for a long time. Everything about this sandwich is so fresh and you can just taste the care that was put into it.

5. Double Cheeseburger

Irv’s Burgers

Los Angeles, CA

Another Hollywood favorite, I love this spot because of their quality burgers, friendly staff, and vintage feel. A very simple but very delicious cheeseburger with all the toppings. A unique personalized note written on the bags by the sweet old women who owns the place makes everyone feel at home and in the presence of good people and god food!

4. Chili Cheeseburger

Carney’s

Los Angeles, CA

This is the best burger you can get served in a train car! Carney’s is a Los Angeles classic because of their chili, it’s creamy, bold, and filled with chunks of tasty meat. Carney’s burgers are great just by themselves but when you hit them with the chili it makes them absolute dynamite! Make sure to get a double, and plenty of napkins.

3. Five Dollar Burger

Sullivan’s Steakhouse

Tucson, AZ

This happy hour signature is simple and delicious. They grind cuts of their finest beef to make the burgers and season them only with salt and pepper. This provides you with a clean natural and totally fresh tasting burger. Best enjoyed on their patio with strong drinks and fine cigars!

2. Bacon and Bleu Burger

Granville Cafe

Los Angeles, CA

A delicious gourmet burger from a classic cafe. The applewood smoked bacon and the tangy bold organic blue cheese only make the perfectly cooked juicy all natural prime burger that they hover over like a melty crunchy topping heaven. Get an order of their regular fries and the sweet potato fries because they both need to be tasted!

1. Double Bacon Cheeseburger

Jack’s Classic Hamburgers

Los Angeles, CA

An old school burger stand that pumps out some of the most flavorful, melty, and delicious burger stand burgers I have ever had.
